Findings

The Flint Adolescent Study provides a unique opportunity to learn about the longitudinal effects of promotive and risk factors for alcohol and substance use and other problems from adolescence to middle adult transition period in a predominantly African American sample.

Guided by a resiliency framework, we have explored the mechanisms by which assets and resources in youth lives help protect against risk factors for alcohol and substance use and other problems during adolescence. We have also studied the link between adolescent alcohol and drug use, and adult behaviors including intimate relationships, parenting, employment, and education during the adult transitional period.

We have created brief summaries of our findings and a list of publications for key topics.
